This was taken on New Year's Eve 1995 in front of the National Theater in Sarajevo. There was evidence of the war everywhere here, but the Theater itself was only slightly damaged. During the rehearsals there was no heat or running water available in the hall, but because of intense media interest in the concert (it was televised live across Europe and covered by CNN), electricity was made available at the last minute. The following day, with Charles Ansbacher and the Sarajevo Philharmonic, we gave another concert in the same theater which was sponsored by AmeriCares.

This is the orchestra library of the Atlanta Symphony, which Telarc converts into a hi-tech engineering booth when making recordings. We are listening to a playback of the first movement of the Samuel Barber Piano Concerto, which we were recording in Atlanta in July 1996, just prior to the Centennial Olympics. In the center is Yoel Levi, Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony, and on the right is Robert Woods, Producer and CEO of Telarc International.


This photo was taken at the Nakasuk school in Iqaluit. I think our expressions speak for themselves! There is nothing more wonderful than seeing the eyes of a child light up with enthusiasm for something new.

In February 1997 I was in my hometown of Vancouver, B.C. to perform Beethoven Piano Concerto #3 with Sergiu Comissiona and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. During the weekend I autographed several hundred copies of my most recent Telarc CD, of the Samuel Barber Piano Concerto. The CD-signing was organized by Liz Parker, Communications Director of the Vancouver Symphony. She is seen here in a stunning red dress, and yes, she IS my sister...

In August 1996 I gave my fifth tour of Australia, which included performances in Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, and Hobart, Tasmania. While in "Tassie" I had a chance to visit with some of the more gentle members of my Australian audience...
